Psychologist Martha Beck explains how to use Toyota’s just-in-time principle in life, focusing on wealth rather than lack of anything.

Since the 1970s, Toyota has relied on the Just-In-Time principle in its production philosophy. This means that the company produces only what is required, when it is required and in the required quantity.

According to research by the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Manufacturing, just-in-time philosophy has been used extensively in many Japanese enterprises to meet consumer demand with minimal delay. A more traditional alternative to this approach is the “just in case” principle, when companies keep large stocks of products ready to avoid shortages.

According to psychologist and writer Martha Beck, you can use Toyota logic in life, focusing on wealth rather than on the absence of any things. Beck recommends writing down on paper 10 areas of his life in which you have an overabundance of something. Such a change in worldview helps to lose weight, become richer and build relationships.

Focus on the richest areas of your life

Marta Beck previously taught international business management, where she actively discussed the “on time” philosophy and its application outside the manufacturing industry with her students. She considers the transition from the principle “just in case” to the philosophy of “just in time” the secret of improving the life of any person.

So, Beck claims: “Most people live in a kind of abundance – we work too much, eat too much and get into unnecessary debt, buying too many things. Driven by the subconscious assumption that “all good things are rare”, we continue to follow the principle “just in case”, accumulating more and more property ”.

Beck advises one simple written exercise that can help “focus on the abundance that reigns around you right now.” So, write down 10 areas of your life in which you do not know the flaw. For example, you may have too many material things, and your house will be littered with trash.

But the writer herself sets the best example to illustrate the risks to love that the “just in case” approach carries: “Restless lovers force the partner to follow themselves. Parents control the children. Lovers to please try to manipulate people to please them. This behavior cannot be called love. This is just a fear-based result of the belief in the rarity of love. ”

The problem is that this type of behavior can have negative consequences. Beck says: “If you had to be a victim of such hectic manipulations, then you know that it makes you want to run away, not get close.”

In the case of a romantic relationship, focus on abundance can, according to Martha Beck, tell the partner the following: “I will always love you, no matter how you act.” In other words, his / her decisions in no way affect your feelings.

This is not the first time that someone has begun to apply Toyota’s principle to life in general. So, the author of the book Smarter, Faster, Better and The Power of Habit, Charles Dachigg wrote in a column for The New York Times that he used the Five Why Strategy to stop skipping breakfasts with his family.

The principle of “five why” is quite simple. Ask yourself “why” five times in a row and you will identify the problem that needs to be solved. Following this strategy, Dahigg was surprised when he found out that he avoided spending time together at the table, because his children gathered for too long in the mornings.

And Marta Beck admitted that she began to record “wonderful things”, which eventually materialized at “the right time” without any efforts on her part, and that she was not going to stop there.
